Coaches

The Dad's Club Swim Team has a Head Coach, Head Age Group Coach, as well as several age group/senior coaches. The coaching staff is responsible for all competitive aspects of the program. They enter all swimmers in meets, and develop and implement all season plans and workouts. 


Head Coach Rey Aguilar 

Coach Aguilar is in his sixteenth year with the Dad’s Club, and sixth year as Head Coach. Coach Aguilar has worked with all age groups from beginner to National level swimmers. His dedication, knowledge, and enthusiasm guided his swimmers to outstanding performances at every level. Many of Coach Aguilar’s swimmers have gone on to swim in college, are nationally ranked and have qualified and placed at state, Junior, national, and international level competitions. Coach Aguilar has also been selected as a Zones and All Star coach. He has been Head Coach for the Gulf All-star select team, and has been a member and chair of the TSA All Star committee. He currently serves in the Gulf Swimming Board.

As a swimmer, Coach Aguilar specialized in butterfly and distance free. He is a former Dad’s club swimmer and was part of El Salvador’s national team where he represented them in numerous international competitions.

Coach Aguilar received a degree in business in marketing and advertising from University of St. Thomas.

Head Age Group Coach Jason Devine

Coach Jason has been coaching for the past 12 years and is in his fourth year with Dad’s club. Jason was the head age group coach at Katy Aquatics before joining Dad’s Club. He has experience with every age group and level, and has assisted athletes in reaching Gulf, TAGS, Sectionals, and top ten national rank times. He has a strong knowledge of stroke technique, skill sets and most importantly, a passion for the sport and teaching. Coach Jason has been selected to coach the All-Star and Zones teams to represent the Gulf. With all of his passion and experience, Coach Jason understands the balance and progression needed to bring kids to the highest level. He has been named the 2012, 2015 and 2016 Gulf Age Group Coach of the Year.

Age Group Coach Joel Beard

Coach Joel started his coaching career as an assistant club coach in his home town of Illinois. He was later promoted to head coach where he also led the local high school swim team. Coach Joel developed many Illinois state champions as well as a national qualifier in his 6 years in the program. Most recently he was the head age group coach at West Houston Aquatics (WHAT) where he aided in the success of their age group program. Joel is also involved in our local LSC where he currently serves as the technical planning committee chair. Coach Joel works with the white and blue 4pm training groups as well as silver.

Age Group Coach Stephen Hall

Stephen Hall is in his 4th year at Dad's Club. He coaches blue 4pm, assists with the National group and is the lead coach of Silver I.
Before focusing solely on our competitive swim team Stephen also worked with our swim lesson program and Tri & Masters adult swim groups. Stephen's experience with this wide range of ages and levels makes him one of our most well rounded coaches. Coach Stephen was a collegiate swimmer at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa, California where he was a state champion. He has a bachelors degree in Business Marketing from the University of Houston. Stephen is also a National Academy of Sports Medicine certified personal trainer, corrective exercise specialist, and performance enhancement specialist.

Senior Coach Carleigh Kutac

Coach Carleigh is a former Dad’s Club Swim Team member of 12 years and a Division I NCAA swimmer and runner at the University of North Texas. Throughout her swimming career Carleigh was consistently one of the best 18 & under swimmers in the state, qualified for Jr. National level meets, represented Gulf Swimming in several select teams and was a member of UNT’s conference team in multiple occasions. Carleigh has since refocused her passion from competitive swimming to coaching and competing in triathlons. Carleigh was a member of the Texas A&M Triathlon team where she completed her Masters Degree in 2014. Carleigh began coaching at Dad’s while still in college. She first helped with our Sr. Elite group and now works with the senior group and also coaches our AM and PM Masters and Tri adult swim groups.

Age Group Coach Leonel Dubon 

Coach Dubon has over 25 years coaching experience. Throughout his long career he has worked with all different ages and levels. Coach Dubon has developed countless Texas Age Group State (TAGS) qualifiers, many of them becoming tags finalist and champions. He has also helped many of his swimmers qualify for sectionals and become nationally ranked in their age groups.

As a swimmer Coach Dubon was part of the Guatemalan national team and later became one of their national team coaches. After immigrating to the U.S he continued coaching with Alief Aquatic Club where he worked with their age group swimmers. Most recently he was age group coach at Houston Swim Club where he aided in the success of their age group program. Coach Dubon will be working with the white 4pm, blue 4pm, and silver training groups.

Assistant Coach Rushed Smith

Coach Rushed Smith is in his first year with the Dad’s Club year round swim team.  Before joining the competitive team staff Rushed taught swim lessons in our ‘Learn to Swim’ program since for the past 6 years. He also coached our Spring Valley Dolphins swim team during the summers.  Rushed has extensive experience working with a variety of levels and ages.  He attended Alief Taylor High School and graduated class of 2008. Over the years he is certified in lifeguarding, CPR, as a Water Saftey Instructor (W.S.I), as a Life Guard Instructor (L.G.I.), and first aid.

Senior Coach John McClure 

Coach John comes to us from Mansfield, Tx, where he started swimming at the age of 6. He swam competitively through college at Texas A&M and began coaching club during his sophomore year of high school. John has coached at every level of swimming from novice, to national, to college. Most recently, he was the Head Coach of Heart of Texas Aquatics Team in Waco, TX. John has coached several Sectional, Junior National, and National qualifiers, National Age Group Top 10 swimmers, and one Olympic Trials qualifier. Coach John brings a passion for teaching the sport of swimming and is very excited to help Dad’s Club to many more successful seasons. Coach John will lead the National prep training group and assists with silver.
