TAPPS State Results

Division I

 

The Duchesne team started the meet with a bang, as Dad’s Club swimmers Emma Partridge (back), Tara Virginillo (breast), Jaimie Miller (fly), and Annie Miller (free) won the gold in the 200 medley relay breaking the State record in the process. The girls clocked in at 1:49.13.


Emma Partridge finished 2nd in both her individual races. Her times of 1:57.0 in the 200 free and 59.61 are both personal best.


Tara Virginillo finished 3rd in the 200IM with a new best time of 2:16.52. Virginillo later won her first individual state title in her specialty the 100 breaststroke. Her time of 1:08.47 is a season best.

Sisters 
Jaimie (Senior) and Annie Miller (Sophomore) went head to head in the sprint events. Jaimie and Annie finished one two in the 50 free respectively.

Jaimie’s time of 23.27 is a Winter National time standard and a new TAPPS State record.


In the 100 freestyle Jamie once again took the gold with Annie not far behind taking the bronze. Jaimie’s time of 50.97 made this her 3rd State record of the day and also makes her the first Dad’s club girl in history to go under 51 seconds.

 

Representing St. Thomas High School Xavier Ramirez had a great showing. Clocking in at 2:10.66 Ramirez dropped a whopping eight seconds in the 200 IM. Ramirez later placed 8th in the 100 breaststroke with a personal best of 1:05.20.

 

In the 200 freestyle Ricky Castillo (St. Pius X High School) achieved a personal best of 2:04.41. Team mate Philip Salinas finished 16th in the 200 IM and 14th in the 500 free.

 

 

Team Records


Jaimie Miller’s time in the 50 (23.27) and 100 freestyle (50.94) are new team records. Both swims beat the old marks in the 17-18 and Open divisions. These are Miller’s first open team records in short course yards.

 

 

Division II

 

Awty International freshman Christina Moreno lead the team with her two 2nd place finishes in her individual races (200 and 500 freestyle). Her time of 2:02.45 in the 200 free is a new personal best. While Moreno racked up the points in the distance events, teammate Liz Hirs did her own share of scoring in the sprints. Her time of 25.81 in the 50 free was good enough for the bronze. She later repeated her bronze medal feat in the 100 freestyle clocking in at a 56.80.


Also swimming for Awty, Lauren Ward (freshman) and Marian Bocabarteille (freshman) both finished top ten in their individual events. Ward placed 3rd in the 100 fly and 4th in the 100 backstroke Bocabarteille finished 8th and 9th in the same events. Margot Guinotte (freshman) joined Moreno in the distance events placing ninth in both the 200 and 500 freestyle. On the boys side for Awty International Tyler Goulding placed fifth in the 50 free and sixth in the 100.

 

Representing Second Baptist freshman Tyler Braswell had a huge drop shaving more then six seconds off his previous personal best in the 200 freestyle. His time of 2:14.16 earned him 14th place. 


Teammate Colter Hawkins finished 5th in the 200IM and 7th in the 100 back. Hawkins had one of the biggest time drops of the meet by dropping 10 seconds in the 200IM with a time of 2:21.80. Finishing right behind him in 6th place was Corbin Schwinger with a best time of 2:22.51. Corbin also placed 5th in the 100 fly. On the girls side for Second Baptist, Sydney Salters finished 13th in the 100 breast with a best time of 1:25.12.

 

Swimming for Lutheran High North Jack Goodman achieved best times and finished 13thin the 100 free and 8th in the 100 breast in the process.
