Dad’s Club Dolphins at the 23rd annual Damon McCoy Invitational
By Mackenzie Parsons (Bronze group).
Everyone was so excited when the Dad’s Club Swim Team headed for steaming Shreveport, Louisiana to swim in the Damon McCoy Invitational last weekend! Goals were set, techniques were practiced, and swim gear was packed in preparation for the big meet.

When we got there, it was a perfect set-up; many of the swimmers were in the same hotel, located right next to the Boardwalk.

This made it super easy to get together for shopping, dinner, or swimming in the hotel pool, and the team took full advantage of the opportunities.

The host team organized a dance on Saturday night, which was awesome! Coach Jane danced with the swimmers and we had a lot of fun. It was great to have everyone there.

As for the actual swim meet, if I had to describe it in one word, it would be “HOT.” High temperatures each day were around 100 degrees and the team kept out of the sun as best they could by hiding under tents. The heat did not prevent some awesome swimming, however.

All of the Dad’s Club swimmers did very well, and a lot of time was shaved off. Many 12 and under swimmers won their heats, including Meg Meliet, McKamie Quine, Tyler Presswood, Justin Turet, Cory Stephenson, and Christina Moreno. The 13 and over swimmers, led by Coach Regina, also ruled the pool, with multiple best times. Sara Jane Gage had 100% best times, including a 10 second drop in the 400 freestyle. Dylan Presswood and Riley Carson both got their third “A” time, qualifying them for “Elite” meets. Alexandra Buscher won three events and got a Sectional cut-off time in the 200 fly.

I loved that the announcer accepted shout-outs (apparently Justin Bieber was in the house to cheer on Erika S., or so I heard) and that there was always music playing in the background. It was an awesome meet!
