Alan Ryden's Medals Donated to Dad's Club

posted Sep 27, 2016, 11:09 AM by Rey Aguilar

Maggie Ryden Parker has donated dozens of medals won by her son Alan Ryden throughout in the 60’s and 70’s.

Alan was a long time Dad’s Club swimmer who passed away from osteosarcoma at the age of 18 back in 1975. Soon after his passing Dad’s Club created the Alan Ryden Award which honors the senior swimmer who best embodies dedication, commitment, leadership and courage to strive for the best, not matter what the obstacles. For many decades now this has been the most important award our swimmers can receive during our annual awards banquet.  This is also the only award that is voted on by the swimmers themselves.

Maggie who is now 88 years old still resides in the memorial area and is very happy that we will put Alan’s medals to good use.

Thank you Maggie, it is truly a pleasure for Dad’s Club to receive such special gift.
