2014 TAGS Short Course Championships

Dad’s Club had another outstanding season in the pool. Our age group swimmers capped it off with a solid performance at this year’s short course Texas Age Group Championships (TAGS). The meet was held at the NISD Swim Center in San Antonio. Dad’s Club finished 8th out of more than 75 teams on the overall combined team standings.

26 of our swimmers from represented all six of the age groups contested.

9-10 Girls:
Sophie Cone, Kara Moss, Frankie Pink, Pearl Reagler, and Samantha Wotring.

9-10 Boys:
Luca Burns, Trey Fischbach, Cole Graydon, Josh McLean, and Zhi-hahn See.

11-12 Girls:
Sydney Buchman, Olivia Cone, Ellie McLeod, Syuen See, and Emma Stephenson

11-12 Boys:
Noah Czelusta

13-14 Girls:
Kate Luo, Sophie Newell, Audrey Orange, Morgan Reyna, Clarissa Vincent, and Jodi Wong.

13-14 Boys:
Clayton Bobo, Vincent Huang, Nicolas Roa, and Cory Stephenson

10 & Under Girls

With three individual finals, nine year old Pearl Reagler was our leading 10 & Under girl. Her highest placing came on Sunday night with a Silver Medal in the 100 Free.

Sophia Cone, Kara Moss, Frankie Pink, and Samantha Wotring joined Reagler on several of the relays. Together these five ladies broke both the 200 and 400 Free relay team records. The old 200 Free record was set 39 years ago in 1975.
  • 200 Free Relay (1:57.00) – Wotring, Cone, Moss, and Reagler 
  • 400 Free Relay (4:19.91) – Moss, Pink, Wotring, and Reagler
10 & Under Boys

The boys also broke a team record of their own. Zhi-Hahn See, Trey Fischbach, Cole Graydon, and Luca Burns clocked in at 4:36.79 in the 400 Free Relay. Their performance was good enough for a 15th place finish in the event.

In the individual events, Burns manage to score points by making his very first TAGS finals. His time of 28.72 was the 8th fastest and currently ranks him 4th in the Dad’s Club All Time Top 10.

11-12 Girls

For the second TAGS Championships in a row, a majority of our team points came from our strong 11-12 age group. In the end, the girls came home with multiple first place finishes and six new team records.

  • 200 Free Relay (1:42.59) Gold – Sydney Buchman, Emma Stephenson, Olivia Cone, and Ellie McLeod
  • 400 Free Relay (3:45.72) Gold - Sydney Buchman, Emma Stephenson, Olivia Cone, and Ellie McLeod
  • 200 Medley Relay (1:54.96) Gold - Olivia Cone, Ellie McLeod, Emma Stephenson, and Sydney Buchman
  • 400 Medley Relay (4:15.66) – Syuen See, Ellie McLeod, Emma Stephenson, and Sydney Buchman
Ellie McLeod and Emma Stephenson also managed to break an individual record of their own.
  • McLeod – 200 Breast 2:30.32 Bronze
  • Stephenson – 50 Fly 26.48 Gold
13-14 Girls

Audrey Orange, Clarissa Vincent, and Sophie Newell all competed in individual events. For all three of these ladies this marked their very first TAGS as 13-14s.

Orange was the only 13 year old in the competition to advance into the A final of the 100 Breast. Her time of 1:07.41 was good enough for 6th place and currently ranks her 4th in our All Time Top 10.

13-14 Boys

Nicolas Roa, Cory Stephenson, Clayton Bobo, and Vincent Huang finished up the meet with a team record in the 400 medley relay. Their time of 3:46.83 shaved off 1.29 seconds of the old mark set back in 1993.

Bobo competed in five individual finals throughout the weekend. His two most notable swims were his first place finish in the 50 Free with a time of 21.80 and his second place finish in the 100 Fly with a time of 51.88. Bobo’s Fly time is a new team record and his very first NCSA Jr. National qualifying time.
