Dad’s Club finished 5th overall in the team standings during last weekend’s Gulf Championships. The meet was held at the Don Cook Natatorium in First Colony on July -18th-21st.

Our swimmers achieved numerous best times many of which were new championship qualifying standards.

Open

Our first individual first place finish was achieved by Riley Carson in the 1500 on the first night of competition.  Carson continued to score big points in his other three finals of the meet 400 free, 200 fly and 200 back.  Overall Carson single handedly scored 48 points for the team.  Just ahead of him with 49 points was Jack Calderwood who had the only other two first place finishes in the open division for the Dad’s Club boys (400 free & 200 back).  Sam Cordova, Parker Harnicky, Grant Kirchhofer and Xavier Ramirez also earned multiple second swims in the finals. Hranicky’s and Kirchhofer’s efforts in the 100 breast earned them new sectional qualifying times. They finished 3rd and 4th respectively followed closely by Ramirez who finished in 6th place.

The Dad’s Club ladies also had a strong showing as Erika Stephenson, Christina and Andrea Moreno, Kamryn Pursell, Emma Partridge, Meghan Parsons, Elena Skaribas, Melissa Brill, Tara Virginillo and Lexie Mueller all earned spots in the finals.  Parsons was our leading lady with 54 individual points followed closely by Stephenson with 52 points and Christina Moreno with 44 points.

For some of our class of 2013 swimmers this was a very special meet. This marked Jamison Carson’s, Kamryn Pursell’s and Matthew Pyle’s last meet with Dad’s Club before heading out to college.

13-14

We saw some of the biggest individual scores in our 13-14 age groups.

Ellie Vincent and Juliette Farmer had an outstanding meet!  Vincent made finals in all eight of her individual events; her total points (91) were the highest in the team. Farmer was also very busy; she qualified for seven finals and scored 85 points.  Bridie Hibbler and Meg Meliet were the other two 13-14 girls to score in individual events. Meliet’s top finish was 2nd in the 1500 while Hibbler’s was 6th in the 100 breast.

On the boys side Clayton Bobo, Vincent Huang, Nicolas Roa and Cory Stephenson had great swims of their own. Bobo’s performances in the 100 fly, 400IM and 200 free earned him new Tags times.  Huang who excelled in the free and IM events was our leading 13-14 boy with 68 individual points. Roa was our second highest scorer with 59 points and Stephenson was our lone finalist in the breaststroke events.

11-12

Our 11-12 girls were lead by individual champions Fernanda Gamez (200fly) and Kelsie Stephenson who treated us to a very exciting 200 breaststroke.  During the race 3 different swimmers kept exchanging the lead, but it was Stephenson who managed to get her hands on the wall first. Olivia Cone, Ellen Pack, Syuen See and Sophie Newell were among the other individual finalist.

11-12 boys Ethan Jones and Tyler Presswood both earned multiple second swims in the finals.  Jones competed in the 50 & 200 breast B finals, and finished 4th in the 200 back A final. Presswood joined Ellie Vincent as the only Dad’s Club swimmer to qualify and compete for finals in every one of their events. Tom Vincent and Luke Reed joined Presswood and Jones in the 200 free relay (4th place). Presswood achieved his very first 11-12 Tags time in the 50 free as the lead off of the relay.

10 & Unders

Not to be outdone by their older teammates our 10 & under swimmers had their share of success in the pool.

Luca Burns, Max Zuanich, Trey Fischbach and Josh McLean earned their first trip to Tags in the 200 medley relay.

Burns also qualified in the 50 and 100 fly, while Zuanich qualified in the 50 free.
